The Stained Glass Windows
Historic Kilmun has a superb collection of stained-glass windows dating from 1895 – 1924. Many of the windows were created by Stephen Adam one of the finest stained-glass designers of the period.
‘The Childrens Window’ of 1895 was gifted to the church by Adams in memory of his friends the Reverand and Mrs Robertson. The window was first exhibited at the annual exhibition of the Glasgow Royal Institute of Fine Arts and this led to further commissions.
‘The Chancel Window’ of 1899 was gifted by Mrs Younger of Benmore after the church’s remodelling.
‘The Saint Matthew Window’ of 1908 is for George Miller of Invereck House.
‘The Saint John Window’ of 1908 is in memory of Reverand Robinson, the first minister of the church when it separated from Dunoon Parish in 1893.
‘The Good Shepherd Window ‘ of 1908 is in memory of John Arrol of Finnartmore whose family firm constructed the Tay and Forth railway bridges and Tower Bridge in London.
‘The Dorcas Window’ of 1909 commemorates James Arrol’s wife.
‘The King David Window’ of 1912 was designed by Alferd Webster and gifted by Reverand MacKinlay in remembrance of D.McColl and R.Wilson treasurer and session clerk of the church respectively.
